The 2020 SUV of the Year winner is back for 2022 with a host of updates across its lineup. The 2022 Kia Telluride is a great option in the three-row midsize SUV segment and has turned out to be another big hit for Kia
What's New
No one upends the new car status quo the way Kia does. Take the Telluride, for example—after the largely unloved Borrego quietly left the SUV space years earlier, few could predict how well the Telluride crossover would be executed. It's pleasing to the eye, both inside and out, and shakes the perception that poor-grade plastics and goofy design are the only things so-called bargain brands should be known for.
The Telluride delivers comfort, spaciousness, practicality, and lavish levels of standard equipment. The seven-to-eight passenger SUV performs well, too, providing excellent ride quality, great body control, and crisp turn in for a two-ton plus machine. All for an outstanding price. Premium has rarely been so attainable.
Performance and Fuel Economy
All 2022 Tellurides are equipped with a 291-hp 3.8-liter naturally aspirated V-6 that sends power through an eight-speed automatic transmission. FWD is the default configuration but an AWD system is available on every trim level. The Telluride in FWD form gets 20/26 mpg city/highway and the AWD version earns a 19/24 mpg rating from the EPA. It hangs with competition like the Honda Pilot, which sees 20/25 mpg city/highway as a FWD model and 19/26 mpg with AWD.
Technology
Every Telluride starts off equipped with automatic headlights, push-button start, remote start via key fob, and a dual-zone climate control system with second and third row vents. The instrument cluster receives a 3.5-inch display, and the infotainment system is set up with a 10.25-inch screen, six speakers, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. At the EX trim level, LED dome lights, an eight-way power adjustable driver seat, heated front seats, and a wireless device charger become standard.EX and SX models pick up power folding side mirrors, an eight-way power adjustable passenger seat, ventilated front seats, and a hands-free power liftgate. The top-of-the-line SX trim gets LED headlights, reverse-triggered automatically downward tilting side mirrors, a 10-way power adjustable driver seat, 7.0-inch instrument cluster display, and 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. Rain sensing windshield wipers and a head-up display are available at the SX level.
